Outdoor Quest Captures Top Honours

Outdoor Quest Captures Top Honours

Episode #17, from the 2009 series of Outdoor Quest TV, just captured top honours for the best Outdoor Television/Video Production in the 2010 Outdoor Writers of Canada National Communication Awards. These prestigious national awards recognize the best in outdoor print and electronic media across the country and this was the first time a hunting program has won first place in the Television/Video category. Second place went to Dave Mercer’s The Facts of Fishing and third place was awarded to Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing TV.

Episode #17 aired on Wild TV and documented T.J. Schwanky and Vanessa Harrop’s journey to Namibia to hunt plains game. “It is a real honour to take home first place in a category that featured some stiff competition,” Schwanky said at the Award’s evening held June 19, 2010 in Whitehorse, Yukon.

This award demonstrates the popularity of hunting in Canada and the importance of national broadcasters like Wild TV.

Argo Adventure!!

On Friday TJ, Vanessa, Sandi and I met up with Doug Lambley from Argyll Motor Sports his father-in-law Bill Ewanciw and Bob Hunter from ODG the makers of Argo amphibious UTV. Ray from Reel Adventures was our guide to the unnamed lake that was our final destination.
The trip in was across 9 km of floating muskeg and two rain swollen creeks. We had 3 Argo HDi, two of which were the new SE version with the adjustable easy ride seats and the new light system. The Outdoor Quest unit I was driving had tracks on it and pulled an Argo trailer. With the four people in the unit and all the gear in the trailer the HDi was moving a ton, literally, of gear and people. There were some very nasty holes on the way in, typical in floating muskeg, but we made it in and set camp. One thing great thing about using Argos is with all the room and hauling capabilities it is easy to move in a first class camp.
The fishing was great for small pike at the lake and hundreds were caught over the weekend. The new tires on the HDi were very impressive with water speeds of over 4 mph and manoeuvrability provided by the HDi transmission made the units very fine watercraft and able to get any where on the lake easily. The weather was perfect but all to soon Sunday afternoon rolled around and we had to pack up and leave.
We all agreed that this trip had to be an annual affair and have already started searching for next years destination.

Another Great Day

It was another great weekend in the mountains and Vanessa, Darren and I hit yet another new valley. Despite lots of deep snow, we made it to the lake, our final destination. With my Dall sheep hunt growing ever closer, it's great to get out and put some miles on with a heavy pack.
